I recently rented fallout three and cleared all kinds of space for it. For some reason when I try to play it from my hard drive it says the game disc is required. My friend did this with a game but his works fine. Some one tell me why when the game is on my hard drive it still wants the disk. What’s is the point of putting it on your hard drive then.

You have to have the disk to play it to prevent people from doing exactly what you’re trying to do. The point of saving them on your hard drive is to reduce load times, save the disk from scratching, and reduce the wear on your drive.

You need to have the disc in the slot for exactly the reason of not being able to rent it and then keep it forever. The disc must be in the tray for the game to run.
The reason to install a game, and Fallout 3 is a great example, is that when your drive needs to load lots of different areas/rooms/textures/events, the drive runs constantly and loudly. Installing saves wear and tear on your drive and is obviously much quieter and cooler for your box.
Some games also will have marginally faster loading times for new areas, depending on how its programmed. (Halo 3 multiplayer, for example, is actually considerably slower at times with an install because it was programmed differently.)
It’s some kind of weird anti-piracy thing. If you install the game, you have to put the disc into the tray so it ensure you didn’t just rent it
and try to keep the game forever.
Oh yeah, it makes the game run faster, and the disc will only spin in the tray at startup. It’s quiet and fast. That’s all it does.
dude its so u won’t keep the game forever without buying it. its a bunch of bullsh5t if u ask me. anyway it works 4 me. probably cuz new games have this feature of not allowing u to download them into ur xbox and playing them without the disk. assasin’s creed works 4 me as well as gears 1 and fable II.
